Malaysia’s Genting Resort extends closure despite eased restrictions

Operations will resume once the Conditional Movement Control Order is lifted

Resorts World Genting is a premier leisure and resort in Malaysia located at Genting Highlands, situated at the northeast of the capital Kuala Lumpur. It is the only casino allowed in the whole country.

Genting Resort has just confirmed an extension of their closure until 12 May. The closure extends to the non-gaming properties it operates in the country: Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi, despite eased restrictions by the government.

Per the company’s website notice:?“We would like to assure you that, despite the temporary closure, we have heightened our already stringent hygiene practices to safeguard the health and safety of all our guests and employees. This will ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience once we reopen.”

They added “We will continue to monitor the situation and make necessary announcements as more information becomes available

“Despite the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), Resorts World Genting, Resorts World?Awana, Resorts World?Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi will remain closed until further notice.”

The four properties have suspended their operations?since 18 March.

In a televised speech,?Malaysia’s Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that the national motion control order had to be?extended?for the safety of everyone. Some controls will therefore be?slightly?loosened.

Ban on social gatherings, and non-essential businesses may slowly be eased if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to decline, Mr. Yassin added.

While on an online summit meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated ‘However, the reopening of our economic sectors must not be mistaken for a complete lifting of our MCO. It is important to note that the order is very much still in place until the 12th of May.’

On the 4th of May, businesses in Malaysia started opening up again following the CMCO. The country implemented the order to restrict domestic and international flights in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. A recent announcement to ease restrictions allowed the majority of businesses to resume operations, under the guideline set by the government, including social distancing measures while still conducting business.
