SkyCity Adelaide shuts temporarily as South Australia’s state enters six-day lockdown

The new lockdown means that SkyCity will remain closed until 24 November, including their 120-room hotel which was scheduled to open in late November

According to SkyCity’s website, the South Australian Government imposed a strict six-day lockdown in Wednesday, after a cluster of new COVID-19 cases in the capital, Adelaide, has resulted in the shut of SkyCity Entertainment’s Casino for the second time around.

In a statement on their official website, the entertainment and gaming operator said SkyCity Adelaide would remain closed until 24 November. The new SkyCity Adelaide expansion development, including a 120-room hotel, was scheduled to open in late November, and the opening will now be delayed in light of the restrictions.

SkyCity stated, “The new AU$330 million SkyCity Adelaide expansion development, including the 120-room luxury hotel Eos by SkyCity, was scheduled to open in late November 2020. The opening will now be delayed in light of the latest restrictions.”

Nicola SpurrierThe new restrictions, according to the SA Chief Public Health Officer, Nicola Spurrier, will include the closure of all non-essential services, regional travel, closure of licensed venues.

‘SkyCity’s New Zealand properties (in Auckland, Hamilton and Queenstown) are unaffected by these latest restrictions in South Australia and remain open at Alert Level 1 in New Zealand.’

In September, SkyCity revenue grew to 36.8% to NZ$1.13bn (£572.6m/€643.6m/$760.7m) for its 2020 fiscal year. This was partly due to an insurance payout from a fire in 2019.
